Back in December 30th, 1941, began the restlessness of the neighbours to equip Colonia with a modern Inn. The "Sociedad Limitada El Mirador" was then erected with a capital of $ 34.000, which is equivalent to u$ 200.000 today. The land was bought from the Company Supervielle of the Banco Frances, and the project and direction for the construction was in charge of the renowned Uruguayan architect Julio Villamajo.
Finally, the hotel
was inaugurated Sunday,June 23, 1946, under the Feuermann and Co. firm. Through the years,
"El Mirador" was owned by such people as : Jose Cabal, Juan Tucker, Amado
Dominguez, and finally Jose Sande.
This harmonious building, distinguished by elegant lines and gardens, gave reason for the Uruguayan Society of Architects to award it with a plaque November 27th, 1981 as homage to its designer.
The hotel underwent various restructures since Sande took charge. Out of the 18 rooms that there were, there are currently 101 the dinning room grew from a capability of 50 to 200, the Casino was built, as well as two swimming pools, two tennis courts, paddle courts, barbecue, etc..
